Terk VS-4 S-Video/Video/Audio Switch Selector Review

Being that my 20-in. Sony Trinitron TV only has one A/V input, I ended up deciding to get an A/V selector so that I could plug my new DVD player into it. Originally, though, I was thinking of getting Sony's SB-V40S. But then I found that Terk sold this one for about half the price, and it was literally identical to Sony's except for one thing: Terk's A/V selector has gold-plated connectors. And being that this helps prevent rust & improves signal transfer, it was easy to make the decision to purchase the Terk VS-4.

The instruction manual I looked at on Terk's web site doesn't mention it, but I noticed that this selector is magnetically shielded, allowing me to place the VS-4 anywhere I want to. Also, the rubber feet underneath it prevents it from moving around on top of my cable box (where it's located). No matter how many times I use it, it never moves. I LOVE THAT!! In short, I'm disappointed that Sony charges double the price that Terk charges. That's why Terk got my money, and Sony didn't.

Kenwood KTC-SR903 SIRIUS satellite radio tuner Review

I got one of these free with purchase of my Kenwood Sirius Ready tuner and installed it in my minivan behind a sidewall.It came with a long cable to connect to the in-dash controller.And with the Terk antenna there was plenty of cable length to get the antenna to the rear of the roof.I used cable ties rather than the bolt-on brackets to mount the Sirius tuner.
Anyway it fired right up and Sirius activation was a cinch from the internet.
The sound is great - better than FM.It must talk digitally to the controller.
I'm an engineer and technically Sirius is a better system than XM.And for me, Sirius programming is better - more sports and news.

There are other xm after-market antennas on the market, and most of them are much less expensive. I have changed out 2 of those in the past, and continuosly had problems in high traffic areas and under bridges getting pops, hissing and even interruptions in service. When I saw this one at best buy (I paid $40) I thought it was a bit excessive, but after seeing the one in the mobile audio installers car I was sold. I installed this one and sure enough, crystal clear sound! Really allowed me to enjoy my XM in an entirely new way, In fact I felt robbed that I did not have this before. Now even in crowded areas and going under a bridge I have full bars, in a tunnel today I lost connection, but the second I saw light, I had it back. You can even feel the better quality of this chord, being a thicker rubber that really feels substantial. Anyone who is really serious about the XM unit or who is an audiophile, it's worth a pick-up.

If you have a scanner and are trying to get ultralow bands, then this is for you. It does what is says it does, but it isn't going to change the way you do scanning.

It's a nice accessory and building it was a bit tricky but nothing god awful. Take your time and be patient.

Overall it gets a 4 because the price seems a bit much for what you get and the case that comes with it isn't a "perfect fit", some of the knobs stick out a bit more than I would like. However, it does do a nice job of getting lower bands in and also is compact which is all I needed it for.

Terk Technology AM-1000 Advantage Passive AM Indoor Antenna I received this antenna to use with my Bose radio.It did not improve the reception.When the item was shipped the supplier (Great Lakes Wholesale) did not include any information about the item or instructions on how to return.There was only a return label with name and address on the box.I called Amazon and received the order number and instructions on returning the antenna.I returned it with a letter and I also had email correspondence with Great Lakes and asked that they send me a new one if it was broken or to refund my charges if it was in working order.I asked these questions in a letter with the product and also by email.The only reply I received was a refund to my credit card but no explaination.Also in my letter I asked for a refund of shipping charges ($7.52) and this was not done.If you have questions you can reach me at 541 754 6177 or 541 754 2223. I have bought and used at least 3 of these in different locations.The product is intended for, and clearly labeled as for, OTA use.Not cable, not satellite, not internet - just broadcast over the air television.

If you have long runs or even just need to distribute to multiple TVs, this is the one for you.Hence the name "distribution amplifier."It is NOT for boosting distant signals, for that you might try an antenna pre-amp or larger antenna.

It is simple, to the point and has always worked well for me for years.None of mine have ever failed, even when installed in a hot attic.I suspect any defective units would fail fairly quickly, so you could return for a refund.

I trust the brand name Channel Master and buy antennas and related products under that name whenever possible.

Terk SIR6 Sirius Outdoor Home Antenna Review

The SIR-6 is a must-have for home listening.Our house has a lot of large trees that made getting a good signal with the standard antenna a real problem.With the SIR-6 the signal strength meter is at maximum all the time.I just attached the antenna to the facia board near the edge of the roof and ran the coaxial cable through a 7/16" hole drilled through a basement window frame.Then I ran the wire through a similar hole in the floor behind the entertainment center.You barely notice the antenna and the signal is perfect all the time.

The unit also comes with U-bolts for attachment to an existing antenna mast or other pole.I found assembly, installation, and adjustment to be easy; Took me about an hour including getting the ladder out.Simple hand tools are required and I used a drill/driver to drive the four included wood screws.Standard coax staples (the ones used with TV cable) worked perfectly for attaching the wire neatly to the side of the house.

The SIR-6 appears to be well made and should stand up to the weather.A rubber boot covers the outdoor connector so water shouldn't be a problem.I'll let you know if snow or ice is a problem.

We use our satellite radio at home most of the time so a good signal is essential.With the SIR-6 installed there's never a problem.

UPDATE: Snow and ice have not been a problem.With two storms so far (1 all snow, 1 snow and freezing rain) the reception has been perfect.The snow stuck right on top of the antenna and collected several inches thick and still no problem.This is definitely the way to go if you listen at home.

I live in an area with very poor AM reception. My home is located in the mountains west of Denver. And for years from time to time I have tried every external AM antenna available and several different types of AM radios with no good results. The antennas included all of the TERK'sand CC Crane'sferrite loops both active and passive, dipoles, "long wire" antennas used by HAMS and a variety of active antennas with built in amplifiers with nogood results . My problem seems to stem from local inference radiated by my household and neighbor's AC wiring (noise from florescent lamps, computers, LANs, plasma TV's, motors, and light dimmers, etc) and generally weak AM signals shielded by the local terrain. My home does not have any line- of- sight to the AM transmitters I'm trying to receive from Denver 50 miles away.

When I tried this antenna it was like magic. This puppy was the answer to all my problems.In the daytime it pulls in stations reliably from up to 90 miles with no static or noise and even farther if you don't mind a little static.I tried it in different locations outdoors and indoors, at ground level, in my garage, in my attic and on a pole above my roof. The performance was always excellent. At night I also received many of the 50,000 watt "clear channel" AM's from locations such as Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, Chicago, Omaha and Dallas with surprising reliability.I couldn't be happier with its performance.

The Negatives:It's kind of large (38 inches in diameter) but I was easily able to hide it in my garage mounting it to a wall. It's somewhatdirectional and needs to be pointedgenerally in the direction of the stations you want to receive, but the instructions that came with it were very clear on how to do that so it was really no problem to set up ( it comes completely assembled).And of course the price is high, but given the amazing performance and all the money I had previously spent on inferior antennas that didn't work, it's well worth the investment. If you want the best, this is it.

Hamilton CD/Cassette/USB/MP3 Component Stereo System Review

I'm a recording musician so I can usually size up a piece of audio gear pretty quickly.These are out-of-the-box first impressions based on three days of use with additional reviews after 2 months.I don't know yet how the unit will hold up over time.It arrived *very* quickly by UPS and in perfect condition.But when I opened the box, took out the Hamilton CD563 and examined it, I almost panicked.It has NO separate tone controls.Not even one knob labeled "Tone", let alone separate bass and treble.Just a button marked "Bass" (boost).*Gulp*So I took it in my bedroom, hooked up the speakers and the power cord, plugged it in and put a CD in it.To my utter astonishment, that barely modifiable tone was nearly *perfect*.Very well-balanced.In the past, I've spent hours with my Sonys fiddling with the graphic equalizers (which invariably have all the wrong bands) and never got a sound this good.The frequency response is much wider than most units of this type.Deeper bass and extended treble.The bass is punchy and tight, never muddy.At first the treble seemed a little shrill but I was three feet from it and listening directly on-axis (right at it).I sat farther away with the unit on a shelf a little below head level and the tone evened out, revealing nice crisp, clear treble.There are just enough mids, which are amazingly detailed.This thing sounds better than my stereo, almost like compact studio monitors.The bass boost supplies just enough punchy kick for rock; turn it off for classical or jazz.Brainlessly simple.

At a modest 15 watts/channel though, this is NOT a loud unit - unsuitable as a "boom box".Comfort level for me with a CD was with the volume control at about 2:30.On the radio setting, about 10:00 (as is common, the radio's much louder).However the biggest difference in volume for playing CD's occurs between 2:00 and 3:00, where it kicks out pretty good.I don't listen to music at ear-bleeding levels, anyway.I also noticed that after five hours of continuous play, the tone seemed to improve even more.I *thought* the speaker cones needed to break in before they moved enough air to balance with the tweeters.Turns out I was only half right.

Despite the speakers having ports where the high-frequency drivers would normally be, they contain NO tweeters.This unit only has two full-range speakers, which is pretty amazing considering the sound quality.Apparently, the designers sacrificed output for clarity.

And then the CD player abruptly stopped working and there were weird patterns on the display (a nice, bright backlit blue LCD) that looked rather like the cover of "Ghost In The Machine" by The Police.I thought, "That's not good."Stopped it, restarted it - nothing.Turned the unit off then back on - nothing.Switched to radio (and predictably got my ears blown out by the difference in volume), then back to CD.Inspected the CD for scratches and there were none.Started it over from the top - worked perfectly.Four songs in, it did it again.The same solution worked.Tried a *different* CD - it paused once but then continued from the same point by itself.Tried half a dozen more.No problems.I figured the unit liked Genesis and Yes but wasn't a Boston fan.BTW, I do get around to reading the manual eventually.The manufacturer knows all about the CD problem, including the weird display.They recommend unplugging the power cord, removing the batteries, waiting 5 minutes, putting it back together and start playing.My solution is simpler and works just as well, but it soon became unnecessary.

I was just thinking about how sturdy the top-mounted CD tray on the CD563 looked when that problem cropped up.It's an odd arrangement.The CD just sits on the spindle without any support from the bottom at all.It's stabilized from above by a rotating disk mounted on the inside of the *door*.It only went HAL9000 on the Boston album.That it paused then restarted itself on the 2nd CD means it was still reading it.The only reasonable explanation is that the stabilizing disk was "breaking in" and was initially a little stiff.It stopped the CD from turning.Appendum: It's now been 2 months and the problem has not recurred.

I was disappointed in three things that are a direct result of merchant false advertising (not by Amazon).I emailed the merchant "School's In" to specifically inquire about the "mic input".Since that's an unusual feature for this type of unit, I asked if that input might in fact be a stereo mini-1/8" LINE INPUT.They told me it was.Well it's not.It's a mono 1/4" input - for a high-impedance microphone.There is no line-in on this unit, which is very unusual.But I suppose the CD, Cassette AND USB do make up for it.You won't find that combination of features on anything else in this price range and I spent a few days looking.BTW... You like the gold color of the unit pictured?Forget it.They only come in blue now.Gold was discontinued but that really didn't bother me.But the biggest inaccuracy in the "School's Out" advertised specs was the "3-band digital tuner".WRONG!It's an AM/FM stereo ANALOG tuner, no better than those found on any other inexpensive boom box or compact stereo and works about as well as any of them.That is a *serious* naughty that needs to be corrected.I ended up buying it here from the Amazon Marketplace merchant instead.I dislike being lied to.

This is a bookshelf system even though it's easily portable and very lightweight.Do NOT take this thing to the beach; you'll never get the sand out of it.It's solid enough for home use but isn't designed to be beaten around.

I'm obsessively picky about sound, but I like the CD563 and I'm keeping it, especially after I listened to the CD of J.S. Bach music for pipe organ my friend made for me."Fantasia in G":)No problem playing home-burned disks in regular or MP3 format.You can program up to 20 songs to play in any order OR the unit will use the Track #'s in the song info and play them all.It will automatically look for song files in folders.The manual recommends using a hard disk USB device rather than a flash drive as it may not perform properly with some flash drives.However, it worked fine with mine.

Overall, this is a no-frills system but it's good at what it does.The CD player works fine after a few hours of break-in time and handles regular CD (CDA I think), CD-R/RWS and MP3 formats.The USB port, as far as I can tell, will work with any USB player AND accept USB input directly from your computer.The cassette player will record from all sources including simultaneous input from a CD/USB and the microphone, which is only active with the cassette player in "Record" mode.The microphone input can only handle a low input level but it comes through loud and clear with the music anyway.

Could have been built sturdier.Also needs a digital tuner and a LINE input.Otherwise, no regrets at two months.

I bought this antenna after reading about various different antennas. I wanted to run my home entertainment tuner. I live inside a small town of about 6500 people, and 32 miles from a very large city that offers many AM stations that I enjoy. I was very suprised to find that the AM doesn't work well enough to understand any stations, period. It is a static mess. However, I rate this 1 star instead of none because the FM works flawlessly. Very clear and pics up all the stations in the area as it should. If you are looking for an FM antenna, buy this. AM, don't waste your money, this thing is a peice of crap. How they can get away with calling this an AM antenna I don't know...

I have a company vehicle that I drive. So the plug-in play sirius radio comes in handy for me when I move from the company truck to my personal vehicle.
Now with the XACT home kit I can bring the receiver in my house. I purchased a couple of small multimedia speakers for it and now it makes a nice small stereo out of my receiver.
The only draw back though is that the antenna can only sit inside on a window sill if it's on the north side of my house, otherwise it would have to be mounted outside.

I bought this for a tv without cable. Didn't use it for awhile when I got cable hookups in every room. Now am using it again for fm reception. It's definitely better than nothing for that particular radio, providing twice as many channels. But the weakest ones are still very staticky, so I'm looking to upgrade. This one is rather larger and bulky, with the big rabbit ears. But, it's also lightweight and easy to move around. The cable is about 5', and is attached. It's coaxial, so you need that input or an adapter depending on what you might attach it to. Newer tvs no longer have coaxials I think, but digital converter boxes and the like do.

These antennas were made obsolete by the appearence of the newer micro antennas and single lead connectors. But don't discount uses for this 2-lead antenna yet, especially at the significantly reduced prices (one-half to one-third the cost of newer antennas).

I can't recommend using this on your auto - but works fine as an alternative installation for my Dephi Roady indoors. I attached the antenna to my office window which has a clear view of the southern sky. Works fine - 3 bars. Modification of the plug was a "snap" - You might have to experiment with either the "sat" or "ter" lead as your source. In my area the "sat" lead worked just as well as in my car.

Unfortunately this didn't work with out XM boombox without altering our radio.The plug was not the configuration- not to worry - a dremmel tool cut the sides of our boombox and we made it work. This was a HUGE disappointment.The plug should not have a bend in it, it should go straight into the receptacle.I would not reccomned this unless you are handy with a dremmel tool.

Directed Electronics 14240 Outdoor Home Antenna Review

It's rare these days to be able to give five stars to an electronic component.

I went from 2-3 bars to 10 bars with this product.

The only thing I would mention is that at least a 3/8" hole is needed to get the cable outside.You will either have to drill a hole or leave your window open as this cable is almost as thick as a regular coaxal cable (like a TV cable).

Also, you need to use oversized (head) screws because the mounting holes are designed to use U-bolts.Mounting screws and U-bolts for pole mounting are provided.

The boom the antenna is mounted on is adjustable by a few turns of a phillips head screw.I did not measure it,but the boom appears to be about 10"to 12".

This gave me plenty of room to clear my gutter.

Update 11-2-08. Working great.

I've had a 4' FireStik KW4-W (the same antenna, only in white) on one of my cars for the past 5+ years and have been very pleased with it.It's a durable antenna that's made in the USA.The antenna is top loaded (coil is at the top) and it has a fiberglass whip.I'm using it with an old, barefoot, Cobra 20 PLUS radio.If you are new to CB radios, don't forget that you'll also need a mount, coax cable, and an SWR meter for tuning the antenna.More information on tuning the antenna is available on the FireStik website (at the bottom of this product's page or under "Tech Help").I'd recommend reading FireStik's "Tech Help" section and taking their advice when shopping for an antenna:"At least two-thirds of the antenna should be above a vehicles roof line for optimum performance."Also, make sure that you purchase a mount suitable for the length of your antenna. The unit was purchased specifically for use with computer-generated MP3 discs utilizing MP3 files downloaded from a seminar site.It was found that discs created with those files would play perfectly on small Walkman-size MP3 disc players but they would not play on this device, although it recognized the disc as an MP3 disc. After some experimentation it was found that if those MP3 files were computer-converted to WAV files and then back to MP3, the resultant MP3 disc would play on this machine.So there is a peculiarity in the software/firmware of this machine that is not readily explainable.The machine has not been tested with a commercial MP3 disc, since that is not its intended use.Attempts to have the manufacturer respond via e-mail to this peculiarity were unsuccessful.

Bought a RadioShack antenna rotator in September (2008) as part of a digital / HD TV upgrade project (new antenna; new mast).The rotator worked fine for 74 days, then it froze.

Climbed on the roof, opened the hatch on the bottom of the motor unit, and found a puddle of water - dried the inside of the motor housing, added some dry waterproofing spray, and it worked fine again.... for another 5 days.

First hard freeze of the winter and the rotator is again not operating.Risked life and limb to climb up the snowy roof, and found frozen water in the motor housing.These things are supposed to be designed for outdoor use - obviously, they are defective by design if water can get into the motor unit.

RadioShack rotators used to last 10 or 20 years or more.They have obviously cheapened the materials being used in them today - there's lot's of reviews of this product on the Internet, with complaints about the rotator failing in less than a year.

Save your money - buy a ChannelMaster or other quality antenna rotator.The rotator RadioShack is currently selling us a total piece of junk !

This is a good looking antenna that works very well. It's short, under one foot tall, and very discreet. The only problem I noticed is that the magnetic base has sharp metal trim on the rim. When seated on the car, the vinyl covered magnet is the only thing on the paint. However, you have to be careful when removing it. You must pull straight up, if you tilt it, the sharp metal trim edge will scratch your car. I put some electrical tape around the trim to prevent this.

Terk AM/FM+ Indoor passive AM/FM antenna Review

At work, in order to receive AM signals, you need to either have your radio in a window, or use an external antenna that can reach to the window, and connect to your radio.
I have a Grundig s350 radio, which has decent reception anyway, but I needed an external antenna to receive the AM for sports broadcasts. This hooked right up both AM and FM right to the radio. FM was improved nicely. AM was improved, but not to the extent I had hoped. There is still static, albeit, a low level that is not bad enough to not use it.
I wanted something that could reach to the window, yet allow the radio to sit next to me so I could the volume low, and turn it on/off as the needs required. That would be about 5-6 feet. Not sure how long they say the wires are, but I could use another foot or two for sure. The FM wire is larger, and the kinks from shipping/packing cause you to lose about 10 inches of the length. The antenna is so light, it pulls it over.
On the up side, it works even when it is not in the window, but not as well. So it does improve things. It is a passive device with no adjustments. My radio has antenna gain, which also helps.
It looks much nicer than what others have, pretty much theirs is a round/oval shaped piece of plastic, this is a nice square solid thing. I would say it's AM performance is mediocre, FM not to bad.

Kaito KA1107 Dual Conversion Shortwave Radio with FREE T1 Shortwave Antenna Review

I have a new favorite radio. And that's saying something, because I have a LOT of radios. Calling me a radio "collector" would be putting it kindly. Actually, I'm a radio ADDICT! I've worked in radio (personality, morning man, program director, music director, production director, in-house engineer, computer/tech guru, operations mgr, etc...today I own a radio production company called "The Production Room", with a staff of five. Together we serve as the production department of WKBC AM/FM in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina) my entire adult life, and am a FANATICAL radio listener. AM, FM, Shortwave, XM Satellite Radio, Internet Radio, you name it...I LOVE TO LISTEN!

This is my FOURTH Kaito radio. I have the KA007 (solar/dynamo), KA1101, and KA1102. THIS ONE SOUNDS BETTER THAN ANY OF THE OTHERS, including the more expensive digital ones (1101 and 1102). For starters,the 1101, though a great radio, lacks bass response through headphones. Both the 1101 and 1102 suffer from some distortion on AM (MW), and both have charitably "modest" audio fidelity on AM and Shortwave bands. The 1102 does, however, have a GREAT FM section, with good sound quality through stereo headphones. BUT THE CHEAPER, ANALOG KA1107 is BETTER!

I have the Tivoli PAL (Portable Audio Laboratory) which previously was my benchmark for fm performance. THE KA1107 IS BETTER at receiving weak/distant fm stations IN STEREO without hiss or "grunge"! At my house in Wilkes County, NC, I have a strong signal from WFDD (88.5) in Winston Salem, NC, and a much weaker signal from WNCW (88.7) in Spindale, NC. BOTH are stations that I LOVE! MOST radios tune in WFDD just fine, but get TONS of adjacent channel interference when trying to gt WNCW. NOT THE KA1107! After carefully positioning the built-in "whip" antenna, WNCW came in just fine, IN STEREO (this from a 17,000 watt signal almost ONE HUNDRED MILES AWAY!)

On AM I can EASILY pull-in (daytime) WPTF (680) almost 100 miles to my east! In fact, I'm pulling in tons of little small-town AM stations in NC, Virginia, and Tennessee as I write this. Since Clear Channel and Infinity own most of the FM outlets around here (like most places), and they all sound the same. Fortunately the KA1107 lets me pull in all the public stations within about a 100 mile radius, as well as the quirky little AMs that are still locally owned and programmed! Stations like WKSK (580) West Jefferson, WCOK (1080) Sparta, WPAQ (740...with GREAT bluegrass and "old time" music) Mount Airy, WAES (630) Hickory, WATA (1450) Boone, WDSL (1520) Mocksville, and TONS more! ALL AM STATIONS THAT STILL PLAY MUSIC! There are tons of talk stations too, including the "big guns" like WBT (1110) Charlotte, and WSJS (600) Winston Salem. ALL COME IN GREAT ON THIS LITTLE 50 DOLLAR RADIO!

When listening through headphones, I HATE it when left and right volume don't track together at low volumes (I frequently listen to QUIET music on headphones while reading, and late at night). No such problems with the KA1107. A VERY GOOD "pot" is used!

Tuning-dial calibration is better than average...not more tha a few khz off on AM or any of the shortwave bands. The FM dial does compress most of the usable stations too much toward one end of the dial, because it includes the (worthless in this country) Japanese FM Band (starting at 76mhz). BIG DEAL! There's still plenty of tuning room between stations.

So, any gripes? You betcha! The little flap that flips out to tilt the radio when on a tabletop came off in my hand the first time I used it. I was able to snap it back in, but it will probably fall out again. I may put some tape on it so it doesn't get lost. No big deal. It DOES "work". And the tuning knob doesn't move with the "silky smoothness" of more expensive analog-tuned radios. It's perfectly adequate, and more important, there is no back-and-forth "play" when trying to tune among closely spaced stations.

The single IF bandwidth (on AM and Shortwave) seems well chosen...a good compromise between fidelity on strong stations, and selectivity on closely spaced and weak ones. Again, fidelity on all bands using amplitude modulation is VERY good, with low distortion!

I have not before been interested in getting sattelite radio and never thought I would, but after I saw my friend with one of these DELPHI Roady2 units, I had to get one too. My friend had shown me other XM units he had, but this is the one that got me to get XM.

When you look at this tiny shirt pocket sized device, you think it is just a controller or head for a much larger unit somewhere, but EVERYTHING is inside the small device itself, including the FM transmitter. Most FM transmitters on the market have been bigger than this device, but somehow they fit one inside this unit with all the other stuff it needs to do.

This unit is smaller than my radar detector.Much smaller.

And unlike most FM transmitters, this one has a nice strong signal! With my friend outside in his car with the unit, I went into my house and was able to tune the XM station he had tuned to on my radio in the house!

In fact, what I like most about this unit is that it is so easy to take from home to car so that you only need one unit for both.Right now, I have it tuned to a channel in the bedroom, but can listen to a radio here in the office on the other side of the house, or any room in the house, the FM transmitter is that good.You have a choice of several FM frequencies, and unlike those FM transmitters you tune with a screwdriver, this one is digitally PL locked to the frequency you select via the on screen menu, and it will not fade off frequency.

The audio quality is going to be better with the line out jack, but the quality of the FM modulator has been good enough for me so far, plus it means I can use any radio in the house or car without having to connect any wires to them.

OK, now some neat features not mentioned on most reviews and websites....

While listening to a channel, you can use the thumbwheel and read what is playing on all the other channels without leaving the channel you are listening too.If you find a song or program that you like, just push in the thumbwheel and you jump to that channel's audio.

Let's say you are in the car, and a song comes on that you really like but don't have pen or paper to write down the name of song and artist. Just push the button on the front labeled:MEMORY.Now that song and artist info is stored into memory so that at any time later when you are around pen and paper, you can call up that information and write it down! You can store up to 20 songs in this memory, then it starts deleting the oldest song title in memory once you have 20 stored.

You can also put songs into another memory that will have the unit BEEP at you if any of your favorite songs are being played on any channel while you are on another channel. Then one press of a button, and you can jump to your favorite song playing.

Each major city has it's own traffic and weather channel, and the current temperature and forecast is printed on the screen too.

You can program your favorite stocks to constantly show you the stock rate on the screen under song or channel name.

Another reason I never wanted to get sattelite radio in the car, is because of having to mount another antenna on the car, I don't like to put holes in the car.But this one has a magnet mount and is the size of a refridgerator magnet, so you can stick it on the roof while driving, but you don't even have to do that, since just resting it near the front windshield inside the car has been getting me great reception, so why put it outside the car if I don't have to? Some might just stick the tiny magnet antenna to the top of their radar detectors.

Same with indoors.I was told to put it in a window with some sort of direction view, but I have it in the middle of the room now not next to any window and it is working just fine. I ordered the in home kit, which will give me a seperate indoor antenna that is a bit larger and will probably be better yet, plus, then I don't have to take the one antenna in and out of the house, I can leave the one in the car and the other in the house and just take the unit itself in and out.

They give you several mounts for inside the car, and I like the vent mount the best, because I don't have to use any sticky permanent tape, glue, or velcro in my car, it holds on to the air vent real tight, and the unit just slides on and off of it and is nice and visable to read right over the radio. But this mount can be taken off easy and does not ruin the car or leave sticky residue.

I bet most people will not figure out how to use the vent clip, and no instructions explain it, but if you figure it out and do it right, it will never fall off and will stay unless you want to take it off. If it keeps falling off for you, you are not doing it right. You don't just slide it in and out of the vent, once you slide it in, in snaps onto to thin plastic parts of the vent and will not come back out unless you angle each of the clamps the right way.And once you have this snapped in to your vent, you do NOT take it on and off as another reviewer mentioned having problems with, the DELPHI Roady2 slides on and off of the vent mount, so you leave the mount on the vent, you don't keep taking it off, you just slide the Roady2 on and off the mount that stays connected to the vent, unless you are not going to use the Roady2 in the car ever again, then take the vent mount off.

And I figured since I got the unit on a weekend evening, I would not be able to get it activated until Monday morning, but XM had an operator to help me when I called and my unit was activated within 10 minutes just from calling from home with a credit card.

Even though you disconnect the unit from power and take it from the house to the car, or back the other way, it remembers what channel you were on last and all the memories and information you had stored in it.

Oh, and you can order a remote control for the unit too.It even has an infrared remote detector in this tiny thing.

NOW FOR SOME SECRET TRICKS!!

Not mentioned in the manual, and unknown to most Roady2 owners, are secret codes to get extra features out of the unit!

With the unit turned off... Press 2 3 2, and then push in the tuning wheel.

The unit will turn on without the backlight on!

This is great if you don't want to attract attention with the bright lights of the unit in the dark, or to consume less power if you want to operate the unit on a battery pack.

To help aim your antenna at the two satellites...

With the unit turned off... Press 2 0 7, and then push in the tuning wheel.

The unit will turn on, then press the DISPLAY button until the display shows BER%

Now adjust your antenna until you get the lowest reading on one or both of the satellites.

You are shooting for "0" on one of the satellites, as only one is
needed, but if you have a clear shot to both, it is possible to get low number or "0" readings on both.--------------------------------------
UPDATE:HIDE ANTENNA IN THE TRUNK!!!
--------------------------------------I have found out something very interesting that I wanted to share here. I put the tiny magnet mount antenna that comes with the Roady2 under the rear deck of the car under the back window. (The carpeted deck that the rear speakers are usually mounted in.)And as you can open the trunk and get access to and easily SEE the bottom of the rear speakers and see them hanging down from the deck, you can also stick the magnet antenna here!

Be carefull to understand that just putting any radio antenna in a trunk, where metal shields it from seeing the sky will NEVER work.NO METAL OF THE CAR CAN BE BETWEEN THE ANTENNA SO IT CAN NOT SEE THE SKY.(No damage will occur to the radio, you just won't get any reception!)

BUT.. on most rear decks of cars, there are usually lots of cut outs of the metal of the car (especially two big ones for the speakers to go through) and if you wedge this antenna and stick it on TOP of the metal, so that only the cardboard and carpet of the rear deck is between the antenna and the sky view out the rear window, this WILL WORK!!

Do not stick the antenna on the BOTTOM of the metal, but on TOP of it so that it is sandwiched between the metal and the carboard/carpet of the rear deck.

It is OK that the carpet and cardboard block it from seeing out the rear window, as radio waves can go through cardboard and carpet, just not METAL. So now, when you look at the rear deck, all you see are your two rear speakers and third brake light, you can't SEE the XM antenna, but the satellites CAN see it!

I have used it this way now for MONTHS without EVER having any reception problems. No matter which direction I am driving too, because the 2 XM sattelites are at such angles in the sky that they will always see through the windows of the car and reach the antenna under the rear deck.If the sattelites were directly straight above, then this would probably not work, since the metal ROOF of the car would block the antenna depending on which direction you were driving. I bet this trick won't work with Sirrius antennas, since their sattelites are always moving around and many times are straight above you.

But even under the hardest rain storms, I have had full strength reception with this tiny antenna hidden in the trunk!The wire I just sent under the rear seats and to the front of the car.The magnet holds it securely in place. Terk AF-9330 AM/FM Indoor Amplified Tower Antenna Review

I was hoping to improve reception on a few stations , so I decided to replace the twin lead dipole (passive) antenna that came with my new tuner with the Terk Tower. I have the AM Advantage loop and that works fairly well, so I figured this powered antenna would be a lot better.

Well, bad reasoning. On FM, it doesn't work NEARLY as well as a 32" piece of plain old wire on any of my radio recievers.In some cases, stations that could be tuned reasonably well with *nothing at all* attached to the FM inputs, and no internal antenna, could no longer be received with the Terk Tower attached.

Those that could be tuned with the antenna attached had grotesque distortion. This despite turning the gain adjustment dial in either direction. It was functioning, as at low levels of gain, the station dropped off completely, and definitely changed as you moved it. So it wasn't just broken. I could get barely acceptable reception on a few stations with micro-fine adjustments of the dial. But even at best all stations had all sorts of fuzz and dropouts. You could turn it up enough to swamp the receiver ACG circuit, but the distortion never goes away as you turn it down the point of losing lock completely.

On AM, it doesn't make it worse, but it doesn't help, either. On all the weak stations I have tried, I simply can't tell the difference in the results. Once again, fiddling with the gain control changes it, but at maximum boost, it's pretty much what I was getting with the the teeny little loop antenna that bolts to the back of the tuner. At lower gain settings you just can't hear the station at all.

For all intents and purposes, it just doesn't seem to work,I tried it on 4 different tuners/radios in 4 different places in my house, and in every case it made the FM reception MUCH worse than the stock antennas, and AM reception no better than the stock or internal antennas. I'm probably going to break it open and try attaching different lengths of wire in place of the stock antenna, and see if that helps. But I get the impression that the booster amplifer just isn't up to the task of passing 107.7 MHz., and introduces too much distortion at FM freqencies. It almost has to be - because a plain old wire that length is MUCH better.

Even though it was pretty inexpensive, I was very disappointed with this antenna. You'll get FAR better reception with a bent coat hanger. And that's free with your dry cleaning.

(addendum - I finally broke my antenna open, and now it's clear why it doesn't work on AM any better than a stock antenna. It's because inside the tower, for AM, is a small, unamplified, loop antenna! It's not even connected to the circuitry. Which begs the question of why turning the dial affects the AM performance. I speculate that the AM loop and the FM amplifier are interfering with each other - and that the AM is getting into the FM amp, causing modulation at the FM subcarrier frequency, hence, really fuzzy FM reception - and also dragging energy out of the AM loop more or less depending on the FM amp setting. BTW, the FM antenna is a piece of bare copper wire running the length of the antenna. Short answer is still the same - it's junk, don't waste your money)

Sirius 14130 20-Foot Car Antenna Extension Cable Review

After scouring the net for information, checking out many retail stores, and calling many distributors I was unable to verify the key piece of information I needed to know... how THICK or THIN is the wire on this extension?I was able to see the 50' in person and it's basically the same thickness as a standard cable tv coax wire, which certainly wasn't going to pass through my window like my skinny Dot Micro wire could.

I'm very happy to report I know the answer since I now have the product in hand.I went ahead and ordered this "vehicle" version after closely comparing the largest online pictures I could find.I noticed, based on comparing the wire to the standardized SMB connector that Sirius uses for its antennas, that the vehicle wire appeared to be smaller.Indeed it is!It's basically exactly the same thickness (or thinness in this case) as my Dot Micro, which is to say quite thin.I'm still able to pass it through my window with it closed!In case you need an exact number (which I certainly couldn't find in my research) the diameter appears to be 3/32in.

This actually came with TWO boots for the incoming antenna, one for a straight (which I've heard is the only kind that'll work with the 50' version) AND a right-angle boot as well.The sealing isn't exactly great so I taped the heck out of it once I had it all connected up.The "amplifier" end actually has two small holes in it that are rather obviously for (non-included) screws.That is nice for securing it down so it doesn't flap around in the breeze if used in an outdoor install, which it is also rated for.

Kaito KA007L 4-Way Powered Emergency Radio Review

I'm keeping a log on my word processor to give you a better review:

I received the radio from Amazon and immediately opened the package and gave the radio 60 turns with the dynamo crank handle (approx. 30 seconds).Then I turned on the radio.I've started checking all the features of the radio and so far everything works fine.All the radio channels worked great, but I had trouble with the band slide switches.It was very difficult to see what band the switch was set to because the color of the case is black and the switches are black.Also the switches have vertical grooves along the length of the slider switch.You couldn't tell if the grooves were suppose to point to the bands or what... but if you looked VERY close you can see that there is a small indented dot in the middle of the switch, which is also black.This small indented dot is your marker to show which band the radio is tuned to.I just so happened to have a Sharpie pen with metallic silver ink.Filling the indented dot with this metallic silver ink makes it so much easier to switch bands without having to start at one end and counting the click of the switch as you slide it across the bands.Also the silver ink dot on the slide switches make the front of the radio look much better.

The eight led lamps in the handle acts like a lantern and gives enough light to see what you are doing in a dark room.You have to get close the lamps to be able to read.

Lets go back to when I first turned on the radio.Remember, I gave the crank handle 60 turns and started my evaluation.This is the 3rd day I've had the radio and it's still playing!!!!It hasn't been on continually for all this time, but I've spent a several hours a day with the radio playing while I check out all the features.I can't believe the radio is still playing.... I keep checking the battery compartment to make sure there are no batteries loaded.It is empty.... The only battery it's using is the chargeable built-in battery.I figure it must have been charged when I got it, because I can't see turning the crank handle 60 times would charge the battery for this length of time.Maybe it could be the solar panel picking up light from inside the house and keeping it going.When it finally runs out of juice, I'll let you know and then how long it actually runs with 60 cranks of the dynamo handle.

There is a small user's pamphlet that comes with the radio. The pamphlet looks like something that came out of a box of cracker jacks.The 3" x 4" pamphlet has only 6 pages and has lots of errors in it.Main thing to remember is; to receive AM, both slide switches have to be on AM; to receive the short-wave (SW) channels, the left slide switch has to be on AM, then select the SW bands with the middle slide switch; to receive all the other bands such as FM, TV1, TV2, WX.VHF, the middle switch can be on any position.The TV bands will go dead in a few days if not already when the broadcast stations change from analog to digital for visual and audio transmission.But who knows, later on some other entity may pick up the unused TV frequencies and you will have access to them.

Day 4:Still playing, but most of the high frequency stations are very weak and hard to tune...probably because of the low voltage of the built-in chargeable battery.The only frequency still playing good is the AM stations.They still sound great.At the top left of the radio, there are 3 indicator lamps.Two are for the power of the charge (low and high) and the other is the tuning indicator.The high power lamp has always been lit since I turned on the radio.

Day 5:The radio is still playing, so I turned on the lantern and left it on while the radio was playing.The radio finally ran down after a few more hours of use and the low power light is now on.
Now for more tests;after cranking the radio for 1 minute (approx. 120 turns), the radio played for about 30 minutes.Only the low frequency channel AM came in clear.Apparently the higher frequencies require a more fully charged battery.I'll check that later.

One hour of direct sunlight allowed the radio to play for about 15 minutes.Apparently in the summertime, it should charge better and play longer.Still only the AM channels will play good.The other frequencies are very weak and hard to tune.
I don't know how long you should charge the radio with the AC charger, but I left it on charge about 24 hours and now all channels are playing good, even the higher frequency channels.

Because you can't play the higher frequencies, and can only play the AM channels when the radio is charged with the crank or sunlight, I'm only giving this product a 2 star rating.

There is no light for the dial, but in a dark room, you can turn on the lantern and shield the LEDs in the handle with your hand to reflect light to the dial to see it.

There is a wire antenna included to help tune in some of the higher Short Wave stations, but there is no place on the radio to plug it into or connect it.I have searched every mm of the radio and can't find a receptacle for it.The lower Short Wave channels work fine with the telescoping antenna when the charge power is strong.

This beats some pricier amplified Radio-Shack antennas. They both seemed to have
damaged amplifiers.This is tough and effective, if fussy.
You must understand: a tuned antenna cannot make the 'scan all' feature work well.
You have to know the station number, set it, tweek the tuner knob and ant. position.
If you write the station positions with a small magic marker, you can make it work well.
I mainly listen to two stations, and one has 4 PBS channels on it, so this antenna
works great for 'pet' stations.For hassle-free all-channel reception, you need
one of the "two bowties/cat's whiskers on a grille' type antennas in the attic
or on the roof.If you are close in with plenty of signal, Rad-Shacks $4
wire bowtie antenna is remarkable.But I like this one to tweek Channel
44-1-2-3-4 and 7-1-2 in the den.I tried it on HD FM....it works well.

Universal Satellite Radio Antenna Review

I have a sirius boombox with the little black flip up antenna that came with the radio. It got sporatic or no reception coming out of my man cave in the bacement that has a window surounded by an outside window well that you can climb down into. I got the Pro600 which is designed to mount outside on the side of the house or roof with the included 25 ft cable, and tried it inside. I put it on the window sill where the black flip antenna sat, no reception, then I backed the Pro 600 two feet away from the window and WHAM, super strong signal! It's sitting on the floor pointed toward the window with the window blinds closed. I have it propped up verticaly with a 10 pack of dvd-rw's. This antenna blows the flip antenna away, and I dont have to deal with the hassle of mounting it outside and running the cable through the window. Highly recommended.

I'm actually using the Degen DE31, which is the same exact product as the KA31 marketed outside the United States. I purchased the antenna with my Kaito KA1102 (Degen DE1102) radio because radio waves tend to find certain parts of my apartment to be rather opaque. It is an excellent (and inexpensive) competitor to Sony's window antenna, and it is very easy to use. The long (~5m) cable connecting the tuner to the loop allows me to use the antenna while keeping the radio at my desk. While I haven't used it much with the higher frequencies, the loop seems to work well across the indicated spectral range (3.9 -- 22 MHz). The suction cup holds well, and the option drapery clip was a nice touch. While the standard connector is a 1/8" plug, you can still use this loop even if your radio doesn't have an external antenna jack. The antenna set includes an optional adaptor that allows you to clip the antenna to your radio's built-in whip.

If you decide to purchase this antenna, you'll also need two AAA batteries. My only other caution about this antenna is that the tuning knob is a bit sensitive for my preferences. This, however, is a very mild inconvenience, and I would easily purchase this antenna again.

This antenna worked perfectly for me for exactly 30 days.At that point, I kept getting "Antenna Not Detected" messages on every receiver I tried.When I examined the plug that connects to the receiver, I noticed that a tiny cylinder of metal inside the plug had fallen out.It's gone, now, and without that piece to make contact, the antenna is useless.

Be VERY careful when connecting or disconnecting this antenna from a receiver, as this piece is VERY easy to break, and you will be left with a useless piece of equipment.

While it WAS functioning, however, it performed its job quite nicely.

Okay, I really do like this little radio and I am definitely happy I bought it!The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I bought THIS model due to the cell phone charger, but in receiving this model, it did NOT have a charge set up for MY CELL PHONE the LG 8400 and that was the reason I bought it for $20 more than the other one.
I also bought the flashlight that cranks.I feel that this was a very worthwhile buy especially when you have several choices for power.I especially like that if the a/c runs out, you have AA batteries, solar and if all else fails.......hand crank power!This is a worthy buy!
Oh by the way, it is also a short wave radio so you can listen to the world when all of the lights are out and you are bored!

It is clear that the engineering group that designed this antennae had little prior experience with marine installations. To begin with, antennae itself is much larger than it needs to be to do what it does. Secondly, the design requires the drilling of a one half inch diameter hole to allow the largest part of the connection to be made below the mounting surface. The alternative would have been to design it so that you could bring the smaller connector up through a three sixteenth to one quarter inch hole to make the connection in the body of the antennae. Generally speaking, in marine applications the larger the hole the greater the likelihood of a significant leak.

Yes, the antenna did give some improvement in reception for both SW and MW(AM) broadcasts. However, potential buyers new to SW radio should understand that it amplifies interference along with weak radio signals. But on fairly clean weak signals it is really helpful.

It should also be noted that my home location is not favorable for DX-ing - either SW or MW(AM) radio.In places like Mexico City however, this little antenna would most certainly excel -even when used with cheap SW or MW radios.My Kaito radio, when used with this antenna, compares unexpectedly well with my 15 pound Grundig Satellit 800 - when using only the Grundig's built-in antenna's - and using headphones on both radios.

Lastly, the antenna comes with several small pieces and perhaps should be kept together in the original box.For me this would take up too much room in my suitcase.I'll probably take the radio and leave the antenna at home when going on short trips.

Tech support suggested this meter was bad, I spent a little more money and bought a different model from Radio Shack to compare and it was a totally different ball game, I had the antenna tuned in five minutes and have had no problems. I would recommend spending a little more money and saving a whole lot of frustration.

I bought the Terk antenna in an attempt to pick up some AM and FM radio stations I was struggling with on my new bookshelf stereo system.Perhpas because of my apartment building, or the quality of the stereo, the antenna didn't offer me much success in picking up stations any better than the factory-provided antenna.I did notice improvement in the static (or lack of it) on stations that were already tuning in fairly well (they went from great to excellent), but the stations that were tuning in "poorly" got no better with the Terk antenna.Overall, it was probably not worth the money paid.

Long story short - Nice radio and programming with horrible FM modulation.Don't buy this unless you're going to wire it directly to your car's antenna or radio.

I bought this device last October to listen to college football games during long road trips.It is my first introduction to satellite radio.I've got mixed feelings about the product.

First of all, the unit was fairly easy to get working.I plugged the power and satellite antenna, turned it on, and selected an open FM station in the unit's setup menu.It's pre-tuned to a test station (national weather).I got a clear signal from the satellite just leaving the antenna resting on the dashboard.I activated it online after a couple of tries (didn't have the unit powered up the first attempt).

However, the FM transmission from the unit to my car stereo was awful, borderline un-useable.Even after choosing a completely clear FM station, turning off the car, waving the unit around until I found a sweet-spot, and crossing my fingers, there was always noticeable and very disruptive static interference.Based on what I've read, apparently the FM transmission strength for this unit way below previous models.I'm told the SP-TK2 model has a much stronger signal.I've not been able to determine whether or not that had anything to do with FCC regulations.

For my vehicle, I've overcame the FM transmitter shortcomings by connecting the unit directly to the Ai-net/Changer input on my Alpine radio and using the AUX function.This step eliminated all of the outside static interference and bypassed FM modulation completely.However, part of my attraction to this unit was the plug and play function.My friends and I have taken several road trips this year and I brought the Sirius unit with me.The cars we used did not have A/V inputs, so we had to make due with the lousy FM transmitter.We were able to fight through the static for the sports and talk radio stations, but music was un-listenable.

The unit itself is ok.It's easy to use and the screen has a lot of info.It keeps track of all the scores in sporting events, show and host for talk stations, and song/artist for music stations.It's awkward to mount though, because all of the wires plug into the back of the dock, not the bottom.You need clearance between the back of the unit and the mounting surface for these wires.My two options were to use an air conditioning vent clip or the windshield suction cup.I chose the vent because I didn't want the unit in the sunlight.At night, the unit is very bright.You can turn down the brightness of the screen, but the buttons are backlit with a piercing blue light that can't be adjusted.The rotary knob is especially bright.It looks like I have a big blue glow stick in my car at night.

The programming is pretty good.Sirius carries every NFL game, and nearly all the college football games, which is exactly what I was looking for.They also play a lot of the NBA and NHL games, but I've not paid much attention to them.They have three comedy stations, and several talk/news (including the BBC) radio and sports radio stations.On the other hand, all of their music stations do not meet my sound quality expectations.I have a decent aftermarket stereo, and the music stations sound worse than local FM.They're not terrible, but the difference between listening to a song on Sirius and on a CD is jarring.That said, they have a fair amount of genres represented.You'll hear songs on Sirius that you'll never hear on your local radio.

I've had limited customer service interaction, but it's been all bad.I chose the three month program to start off with.Sirius doesn't give you a very detailed invoice on the billing screen.It simply shows Subscription charge, Activation Fee, and Taxes.The Subscription charge on the invoice did not match what plan stated it should be, it was about $1 more.The Activation Fee was what I expected.However, Taxes came out to the 15% of the sum of Subscription plus Activation.There's not a state in the US that has a 15% sales tax rate.I called them to find out why it was so high.The lady on the phone had no idea what I was talking about.First she tried to explain why there was a charge for activation.It took quite a few minutes to get it across that my question was about the taxes, not the activation fee.Next, she tried to tell me that the tax rate was based on the Houston rate where she was located.The sales tax in Houston is 8.25%, not 15%.And besides, you are supposed to be taxed based on your local rates, not the location of the service center.After trying to get this point across (another 5 minutes) she went to speak to a manager.She came back and offered me a $15 dollar credit for the activation fee, without ever answering my question.I was tired of the conversation, so I took the credit and hung up.I'll try again to get an answer out of them when my three months are up.

All in all, the unit has sort of worked out for me.It works fine in my car, but travels poorly.I can listen to all the sports I want, but the music sound quality leaves much to be desired.It was easy to hook up, but looks silly just clipped onto my air-vent.If all of the short-comings I've described were addressed I'd be very happy with it.

**Update 12/19/2006**
Warning: The unit is dying on me less than three months after I purchased it.Sometime after around 10 minutes of use, the receiver will become locked into "acquiring signal" mode regardless of actual signal strength.Turning the unit off and then on again fixes it, sometimes.I've researched this issue online and apparently it's becoming a common problem.The recommended fix from Sirius is to either re-activate the receiver on-line or return it for a new unit.If I could, I'd knock another star off this review.

**Second Update**I eventually got SIRIUS to send me a replacement head-unit, free of charge.The second radio works just fine.However, I had to ship the original radio back to the manufacturer.A word of warning: if you ship something to Sirius, keep your tracking number.They tried to tell me that they never received my original radio and charged me for the second.I got on the phone and used the UPS website to tell them who in their warehouse signed for the package.The charge was later reversed.

The wiring for the Delphi extension seems to be really well made.I saw another extension cord, and the wire was very thin and looked like it wouldn't hold up well...especially if you decided to mount the home antenna outside somewhere and have it content with the weather constantly.

I have my Roady 2 home kit in the basement bedroom, and I just ran the cord into a hole in the drop down ceiling, and put it above the ceiling tiles all the way to the stairwell where it gets perfection reception.

The wire is thick and strong, 50 ft is enough for most people, and the connections are well made...works with the Roady series as well as the Sky Fi.

Terk XM4-CLIP Truck/RV XM Satellite Radio Antenna Review

I bought this antenna for use on my Kenworth T600 truck. The smaller antenna that comes with the car accessories kept falling off the truck even if I used velcro and tape. The smaller antenna also does not have a long enough cable to reach some of the higher locations on a big rig truck.

The Terk XM Antenna works well because it comes with two different types of mounting options. (1) You can use the mirror mount to attach it to any round tubular type mirror arm. My Kenworth does not have the tubular mirror arms, but the application still works by using a longer nut/bolt combination available from your local hardware store. (2) Your second option is to use the pressure mount hardware to attach the antenna to any other edge on the truck or RV. It is perfect for mounting the antenna to the top back area of the air dam or to the side back fairings if you don't have an air dam.

My only small complaint and reason for 4 stars instead of 5...

...There doesn't seem to be enough cable (even with the longer one that comes with this model over the normal ones) if you plan to attach it to the back of your truck, such as up on the air dam. You almost need to mount it in this location to get it away from your CB antennas. I first tried mounting it on the mirror arms, but I found many drop-outs on any eastward heading routes since the XM antenna was not high enough on the truck. Supposedly the CB antennas can interfere with the XM antenna if they are mounted too close, which leaves the top of the truck (on the air dam) as the highest location away from the CB antennas. If you are willing to drill a hole in the sleeper or cab then there is plenty of cable to run it inside your truck, hide it behind interior walls, and have it run up and out of your dash area to the XM radio. But without drilling a hole, you have to run it down the back of the sleeper, under the cab and up through any rubber pass-through you can find. By that point you've wasted most or all of the cable length, which limits where you can position the radio.

All in all, great antenna with better overall reception than the run-of-mill XM antennas.

I got this antenna hoping it would boost my AM signal.No such luck, great for FM but so is the original antenna that came with the radio. Also you have to connect it to a power supply/amplifier and that means you have torun both a signal and a power line outside your window or drill a hole in the house, neither is a great alternative.I wouldn't mind if it came with a small gauge wire that ran signal and power, but it is standard size shielded cable and power line.Luckily my friend's son is an installer so I can get a professional job, but for the average person this can be a problem.

Terk SR1 Glass-mount XM Satellite Radio Antenna Review

DO NOT buy one of these.I won't go so far as to specifically blame the seller from whom I bought mine, but it's hard for me to believe he wasn't aware of the problems associated with this antenna.First of all, Terk is no longer an independent company, but rather a division of Audiovox, who doesn't seem to be particularly concerned about providing any support for the Terk brand.Second, the SR1 is now considered an "out-of-date" product, and is afforded only the "Sorry, there's nothing more I can do for you," response when you call Audiovox customer service.

While the "through-the-glass" technology seems like a wonderful idea, Terk's version of it is anything but.I can only ask that you believe me when I tell you that I am absolutely ANAL/OBSESSIVE/COMPULSIVE about things such as installation of an antenna like this.The glass, both inside and out, was as clean and contaminant -free as any piece of glass has ever been.The temperature was right, and the actual application was performed exactly as directed.

The interior half of the unit fell off 3 days after installation, and the exterior part only stayed in place for 4 days more.And when each part fell off, guess what broke in both of them -- the absolutely critical induction coils!

NO WARRANTY.NO RETURN.NO REPLACEMENT.NO SUPPORT.NO GOOD!

I bought this antenna to replace the original which was 3 years old. It is similar to the original and was needed because the wires are very small where they plug into the radio holder station. The same thing happened with the wire that plugs into the car socket for power. The wires just broke off. I now keep them straight because any twisting will cause this to happen again. It works well and I was glad they still make this product for older radios.

I did not expect much from this antenna, I got it simply because it was the only option in my application. I installed it in the body of my '23 T street rod behind the seat about 20' from vertical. In a metro area with lots of stations, it has no problem picking up whatever I want with little interference. Despite the low mount, unshielded hot rod ignition, and everything working against it, it performs quite well. It also seems sensitive enough to pick up distant stations when traveling.

I had been searching for something to help with my poor Sirius reception at home. I was very excited when I found the Monster Cable MSR-ANT-HM Sirius Home Antenna, it seemed like the perfect answer. American International XM-2SAA XM Roof-Mount Antenna Review

This is a universal satellite radio antenna (universal in the sense it will work with either Sirius or XM satellite car radios).

I had to replace my antenna for my Sirius satellite radio as the cord had cracked and was no longer acquiring a signal. This XM version was the only one available at the store I was at, so I bought it, realizing that the antenna for XM and Sirius (now that they have joined companies), was interchangeable.

The antenna fit perfectly into my satellite radio, however, the reception of this antenna was inferior to the reception to my previous Sirius antenna. The 'bars', indicating signal strength, are usually only 1 out of 3 (rarely 2) and the signal, frequently cut out, even in very 'open-sky' areas.

Conclusion:

The reception was unreliable and sporadic. I would not buy this brand of antenna again.

Terk Amplified Indoor AM/FM Antenna (PIB) Review

I live in what is called a "fringe area" on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We have a handful of local FM stations, but the best radio is just 50-90 miles north in Hampton Roads, VA. FM stations that come in well on your car stereo from these areas never seem to make into office and home stereo systems.

The TERK promises to amplify a signal if it's present. I live in a 3 story wood frame house, on top of a 30 ft sand dune, so altitude should be excellent for this type of antenna.The wood frame house should not block FM signals. No dice. 50 kw FM atations 40 miles north (Hertford, NC) and south (Englehard, NC) came in no better on the TERK than on a typical factory supplied dipole. 100KWer's in Tidewater such as WMYK (93.7), with a 1000 ft tower 50 miles north are barely registering on my Sony tuner. These stations come in fine on my Bose Wave and assorted portables. High end systems lack the "sensitivity" of smaller radios when it comes to boosting FM signals, and the TERK can't seem to overcome that problem.

My advice? If you want a solid signal for your high end system, and you live in a fringe area, go with either an outdoor TV antenna, or if possible, mount one in your attic. The FM radio band in wedged right between TV channels 6 and 7, so any outdoor TV antenna will do the trick. If you are confined to an apartment, I have no advice other than "save your money" and try other alternatives.
