Kaito Amplified Active Loop AM & Shortwave Antenna, KA33 Review

Kaito Amplified Active Loop AM & Shortwave Antenna, KA33Yes, the antenna did give some improvement in reception for both SW and MW(AM) broadcasts. However, potential buyers new to SW radio should understand that it amplifies interference along with weak radio signals. But on fairly clean weak signals it is really helpful.

It should also be noted that my home location is not favorable for DX-ing - either SW or MW(AM) radio. In places like Mexico City however, this little antenna would most certainly excel -even when used with cheap SW or MW radios. My Kaito radio, when used with this antenna, compares unexpectedly well with my 15 pound Grundig Satellit 800 - when using only the Grundig's built-in antenna's - and using headphones on both radios.

Lastly, the antenna comes with several small pieces and perhaps should be kept together in the original box.For me this would take up too much room in my suitcase.I'll probably take the radio and leave the antenna at home when going on short trips.

Product Description:
The newly released KA33 portable active loop antenna is an improved version of widely praised shortwave antenna KA31, in addition to all the features of the KA31, the KA33 comes with a ferrite bar antenna to be coupled with radio's own antenna, thus greatly enhance its AM sensitivity & selectivity. It is an ideal choice for the traveller who wants maximum performance from his/her worldband radio. The flexible folding loop antenna is 15 inches when fully extended, but folds down with a twist to a mere 6 inches (18 cm) and neatly fits in the supplied plastic blister. A mounting clip and suction cup on the end of the loop allows easy placement in a variety of situations. The suction cup is especially useful for mounting the antenna to a window where reception will often be the best. The loop antenna is then connected to the amplified tuning RF control box powered by 2 AAA alkaline batteries (not included) via the 15 foot cable. An 18" cable comes out of the control box and this is either plugged into the radio's 1/8" antenna jack where possible or an adapter (included) is used to clip to its lowered telescopic whip antenna. For desktop radio the adapter is used to clip the leads to the radio's antenna and ground connectors.

FM-02 Omni-Directional AM / FM Amplified Stereo Antenna Review

FM-02 Omni-Directional AM / FM Amplified Stereo AntennaI bought the PowerQ portable HDTV antenna, and had great results with it, so I though I would try their FM stereo antenna too.It was simple to hook up and the reception was much better than the wire dipole that originally came with my Onkyo stereo receiver.Didn't make sense to use the cheapo $2 antenna that came with it, after all it is a $900 receiver.I was pleasantly surprised at the number of stations it picked up with ease.Plenty of quieting with no background hissing and noise like other antennas.I have tried two antennas from Terk with no luck. I highly recommend this product!

Kaito AN-03L - Radio antenna Review

Kaito AN-03L - Radio antennaFrom what can be seen on the Amazon website as well as on other sites, this Kaito reel antenna (AN-03L) is essentially the same as the Sangean ANT-60 antenna (and 50 % cheaper in price!) right down to the supplied connector for a whip antenna (for radios without an external antena jack of any kind). The only notable, albeit quite small, differences are the presence of two separate finger holds used to reel the antenna back up when finished listening and a separate small attachment for hanging the unit up on a hook in the wall or on the ceiling, etc.). This Kaito antenna is designed to improve reception on FM/SW as well as for TV (UHF/VHF) and for the Weather bands for any such radio. AM (MW) reception is separately controlled by a ferrite antenna coil that is comonly incorporated inside of most radios. I have used this Kaito antenna on my Kaito KA1102. The antenna is 7 m (~23 feet) long which should usually be placed as high as possible near an outside door or window of any building for the best reception improvement. I have found an excellent improvement for weaker signals on the FM/SW bands (too long of an antenna can overload some radios like the KA1102, but this length of wire is perfectly adequate whereas other longer external antennas will not be. Always check your radio manual first before investing in a very long external antenna!). It must be remembered that the antenna not only allows an amplification of signal, but also of the prevailing background radio noise level so if it is very noisy at the time of reception at a certain frequency, the improvement in "hearing" may not always be as good as at other times when the background noise levels are much lower. Overall I am very happy with this very inexpensive purchase which is a simple passive fix for a generally quick improvement of signal strength for the weaker FM/SW radio waves.

Product Description:
This antenna will improve the reception on the shortwave bands for any portable shortwave radio. The antenna works with radios that have an external mini jack. This works really well for the pocket shortwave radios and it increases the reception stability very much. This antenna is extremely compact and weighs very little so it's great for travel especially in a hotel room. Just plug it into the radio, extend the 23 foot wire from the reel and clip it to a high curtain or similar near a window for much better reception that than the standard telescopic whip antenna.
